What’s Different With World Cup 2026 vs Previous Ticket Pricing
Dynamic Pricing
That’s right, FIFA decided to go with dynamic pricing based on demand, teams, city, etc…
Given the nature of dynamic pricing, it isn’t possible to reflect the exact price at any given moment so we will start this article with what is known.
Ticket Scalping / Touting
FIFA has operated a Resale Portal in recent World Cups but it has never allowed full on scalping where resellers can name a price as high as they want. Given the nature of events in at least the US, FIFA decided to fully embrace the ticket scalping ethos and rip the soul out of the tournament and pocket as much money as possible, including 15% fees for seller and buyer.
Surprisingly, a cohort of the population seems to take pride in this concept and saying “the world’s biggest sporting event should definitely be the most expensive”.
If you’re going to use an unofficial source, read the Terms of Service + do your own research and use a platform like LiveFootballTickets that has a 150% refund policy to protect customers.
Category Definitions & Allocation
You’ll see in the pricing examples below that FIFA decided to change how they define categories for the matches. In most recent tournaments, categories were created by placement on the field but for the 2026 tournament, it will be based on how “high” the seats are.
One can understand this argument and approach but at the same time, it was awesome to only pay $69 USD to sit front row for Brazil vs Switzerland match in 2022.
Additionally, most stadium allocation is in Category 1 whereas in previous allocations, Category 2 was either the majority or close to equal share of Category 3 so fans can be paying Category 2 pricing to sit one row in front of Category 4.

These prices are based at the start of the Visa Presale phase and in USD currency since majority of matches take place in USA.
Given the nature of dynamic pricing, these won’t stay static but at least there is perspective on how the pricing was assigned. Whether these come down or go up is anyone’s guess. Many believe most prices will go down as matches are about to kickoff while many others believe these are “fair” prices.

To kick off Phase 2 sales, fans were eager to see pricing impact after the above Phase 1 prices.
Given the dynamic nature of pricing, it is impossible to fully track exact prices at any given time but we can gain an idea on ranges once the phase starts. Matches within stadiums started to vary and some matches, notably the ones with Mexico playing, increased a fair amount.
