Using Google Maps and Qatar 2022’s “Getting to Stadiums” section, we’ve mapped out the options for getting to stadiums from the accompanying metro stops, similar to our earlier post regarding bus stations.
It does appear that metro and bus travel will be free for carriers of the Fan ID for Qatar, which is called Hay’ya Card.
The 2021 Arab Cup operated a shuttle system for matches and contained detailed info on how long the shuttle rides took + the walking time from the shuttle stop. We assume it will be the same for the World Cup since distances from metro to stadium won’t be changing. 🙂
Again, the Qatar 2022 site has a link on each stadium but we summarized it below + added some extra character to the Google maps.
You can also look at all options for public transportation here.

Stadiums & Respective Metro Stops
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium
- Metro Stop: Al Riffa on the Green Line
- Walk or Shuttle: You can walk this.
- Walking Distance: 1.4 km / 17 min
- The Mall of Qatar is right next to this metro stop and could be a good place to wait out the rush for the
Al Bayt Stadium
- Metro SHUTTLE Stop: This is tricky but there is NOT a metro stop at this stadium. Instead you need to get off at the LUSAIL (Red Line) stop in Doha and then jump on a metro shuttle for a 30 minute ride.
- Shuttle Info:
- Start your trip: 4 hours before kick-off
- Shuttle operates until: 1 hour 30 minutes after kickoff
- Est. Journey time: 30 minutes
- Shuttle Info:
- Walking Distance: It is a 10 minute walk from the metro shuttle stop (but again, you have to take the 30 minute metro shuttle from Lusail stop on the Red Line in Doha first).
- Uber/Taxi may be a good option for this stadium as well; if the roads to get overrun with vehicles and delay the trip even more, which was common in Brazil and South Africa.
Al Janoub Stadium
- Metro Stop: Al Wakra on the Red Line
- Walk or Shuttle: Shuttle
- The metro station is 5km away and then you have to take a metro shuttle. It appears to be a non-stop, 5 minute shuttle ride on Google Maps but the official site lists the shuttle trip as 15 minutes.
- Shuttle Info:
- Start your trip: 4 hours before kick-off
- Shuttle operates until: 1 hour 30 minutes after kickoff
- Est. Journey time: 15 minutes
- Walking Distance: 5-7 minutes from the metro shuttle stop…or you can brave the 5km walk from the station.
Al Thumama Stadium
- Metro Stop: Free Zone on the Red Line
- Walk or Shuttle: Shuttle
- The metro station is ~7km away and then you have to take a metro shuttle. It appears to be a non-stop, 15 minute shuttle ride but, it also appears the stop is a 30 minute walk to the stadium so be prepared.

VERY NICE.

This field really helped me much to be more acknowledged as a receptionist in Barwa site 32D..I’m sure I’ll have something to tell to the guest fans in case they ask me while doing Check in.
We ordered hospitality tickets a few months ago, and after some time FIFA sent us the options to book accommodation. it was hectic and the prices changed every second, but we were able to book a nice hotel in the middle of Doha for a decent price (compare to a world cup of course).
I belive more of that will happen soon, but it will be harder and harder to get it
Congrats on your hospitality package! That’s awesome to hear. I personally suspect – and it is only a hunch but is along the same lines of your statement – that as tickets get allocated, there will be room availability popping up. It may make sense for FIFA and Qatar to ensure those with tickets have rooms available first? I could also be completely wrong but guessing is a bit fun. Thanks for letting everyone know about your experience and please pop-in with any other expertise you may have on other pages!
I am trying to get accommodation secure before I buy any airline tickets.
Does anyone know of hotels that have availability?
Hi Alfonso! That’s the big question. We’ve contacted hotels and found some are under contract with FIFA and the Qatar 2022 site hasn’t really provided any updates yet. I think the companies that provide official tours like RoadTrips can get space in a hotel but I am thinking there’s an ongoing plan with FIFA and Qatar to open hotels at a later time? I have confidence we will learn something in next few months. Perhaps there’s a strategy to require a ticket for accommodation or something? That’s a made up guess but maybe. If anyone else has learned more, certainly express it.
