How to Buy World Cup 2026 Tickets – In Depth

That said, we also put together a much more comprehensive “How to Buy World Cup Ticketsarticle here that dives much deeper into FIFA’s processes, tips, etc.

World Cup 2026 Ticket Pricing and Availability

We’ve read various articles stating 6 and 7 million tickets so we’ll go in the middle and say 6.5 million tickets will be available for the 104 matches across 16 host cities, with 1 million tickets allocated for the initial Phase 1 lottery system.

Ticket Price Range

The 2026 World Cup will feature the most expensive ticket prices in tournament history:

  • Cheapest tickets: Starts at $60 (Category 4 group stage matches)
  • Most expensive tickets: Starts at $6,730 (Category 1 Final tickets)
  • Category 1 Final pricing: 4x more expensive than Qatar 2022 ($1,605 maximum)

Visa Presale Pricing

As October 1 hit, the first time slots were introduced for the Visa Presales and it was a wild day of screenshots and posts on social media.

The Athletic wrote a brilliant piece that summarizes the day and goes beyond the image below and details the prices per city for stages but for a brief idea on prices at this time, here you go:

Dynamic Pricing Implementation (Sorry “Variable” Pricing)

We use the word “start” above because….unlike previous tournaments, FIFA will implement dynamic (aka “variable”) pricing similar to concert and sports tickets, meaning prices will fluctuate constantly based on demand throughout the sales process. And let’s be honest, there’s not many matches where demand will drop.

Why are there semantics involved?

This FAQ on their page states:

FIFA’s ticketing approach aligns with industry trends across various sports and entertainment sectors, where price adaptations are made to optimize sales, attendance and ensure a fair market value.

FIFA applies variable pricing and may adjust ticket prices throughout the sales phases based on a review of demand and availability for each match. However, FIFA is not implementing a dynamic pricing model for FIFA World Cup 26™ tickets, as prices will not be automatically modified.

FIFA aims to achieve its strategic objectives by optimizing revenues and maximizing attendance. With this approach, FIFA considers that ticket price adaptations help ensure fair market value for FIFA World Cup 26™ matches. As a not-for-profit organization, 90% of all revenue FIFA generates is redistributed back into the global game, supporting the growth of football around the world.

Our Take on Dynamic vs Variable:

FIFA is arguing semantics of “dynamic pricing” vs “variable pricing”.

Here’s what FIFA is actually saying:

What they’re calling “Dynamic Pricing” (which they say they’re NOT doing):

  • Automated, algorithm-driven price changes
  • Prices that adjust automatically in real-time based on demand
  • Think Uber surge pricing or airline tickets that change by the minute

What they’re calling “Variable Pricing” (which they ARE doing):

  • Manual price adjustments between sales phases
  • Human decision-makers reviewing demand and availability
  • Adjusting prices up or down based on this review
  • But not 24/7 automated algorithms making the changes

The practical reality: This is still “dynamic” in the sense that prices will vary based on demand.

So if a match has low demand in Phase 1, FIFA might manually lower prices for that match. If another match is selling out quickly, they might manually raise prices for the next phase. It’s a distinction that matters more for PR and perception than for consumers, who will still see prices that vary based on demand patterns.

It’s essentially FIFA saying “We’re adjusting prices based on market conditions, but we’re not using surge pricing robots.”

FIFA Sponsorships: Verizon Wireless + American Airways

Both Verizon Wireless & American Airlines are providing tickets to 2026 through their FIFA 2026 partnership.

In the case of Verizon, they are giving away 1000’s of free tickets in October + 200 “on the field” experiences in November, with more to come.

In the case of American Airlines, they are allowing AAdvantage Members to use miles to purchase tickets to all 104 matches. With Group Matches starting at 75K miles and the Final at 965K miles, it may only interest those with many miles to spare. The process here starts Oct 13-15th and then again “After the Draw” (Dec 5).

Ticket Types and Categories Available

Seat Categories

The tournament features five seating categories and is very different than previous years. In previous years, it was possible to sit front row with Category 3 (granted, you were right behind the goal, but still) because Categories were based on overall location.

Now, it appears FIFA will add in levers for categorization based on lower vs upper bowl as well.

  • Category 1: Most expensive – Lower tier premium seats
  • Category 2: High pricing – Lower and upper tiers
  • Category 3: Medium pricing – Upper tier
  • Category 4: Cheapest option – Upper tier, furthest sections
  • Accessible Seating: Variable pricing – Designated areas for disabilities/limited mobility
  • Children: What about the children, won’t somebody think of the children?! Read FIFA’s “baby in arms” text (basics are shorter than 34″ tall and younger than 2 years old).

UPDATE: The FIFA Resale Portal opened on Oct 02. And on Oct 15, FIFA started sending the “rejection” notices.

Note: While FIFA previously stated in official rules, a random FAQ and in email to us that only ONE registration can exist per HOUSEHOLD for this or they my disqualify your registration, there is an update from The Athletic. The Athletic received word from FIFA that the submissions will be “scrubbed” for duplicate entries. However, the nuances of specifics around “household” are still vague but it doesn’t seem likely tht FIFA will disqualify entries.

  • Registration Window:
    • Register Oct 27-31 on FIFA.com/tickets
  • Purchasing Window:
    • Starting NOV 12:
      • 72-hour time window for only residents of host countries.

  • FAQs: Link to FIFA’s FAQ for this phase
  • Opens: December 11 to January 13
  • Method: Random Selection system in that it appears fans can apply for tickets during this time and FIFA will randomly allocate tickets. It is similar to how previous lotteries worked for World Cups. All fans have access to log into FIFA, express interest in specific matches and # of tickets. After FIFA allocation, if fans were lucky, they’d have to commit to purchase all tickets allocated or none; you cannot pick and choose.

Phase 4: First-Come-First-Served

  • Timing: 2026 (closer to tournament)
    • Final sales phase for remaining inventory
  • Method: Chaos. 😁 Every man/woman for themselves. Expect many technical challenges on FIFA’s site.

Resale Rules by Country

United States and Canada

  • No price caps on FIFA’s official resale platform
  • Tickets can be resold at any price
  • Market-driven pricing allowed

Mexico

Important Venue Package Exclusions

Several major venues exclude significant matches from their packages:

  • Opening Matches: Los Angeles (USA), Mexico City (Mexico), Toronto (Canada)
  • Final Match: New York/New Jersey MetLife Stadium
  • No Knockout Matches: Guadalajara (group stage only)

Key Takeaways for Ticket Buyers

  1. Register early for Phase 1 if you have a Visa card
  2. Consider venue packages for guaranteed multiple matches
  3. Expect price volatility due to dynamic pricing
  4. Review exclusions carefully before purchasing venue packages
  5. Understand resale rules based on your country of residence
  6. Plan for multiple releases of ticket availability and never give up as past tournaments had key match tickets show up on the FIFA platform very late.
  7. Lastly, tickets do NOT guarantee entry into host countries so you’ll need to go through each respective country’s own visa application process
